Firewood BTU & Burn Time Estimator
Estimate the potential heat energy (BTU) and relative burn time for different types of firewood. This helps in choosing the right wood for your heating needs.
What are BTUs and Cords?
BTU (British Thermal Unit): A BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. It’s a standard measurement of heat energy. Wood with a higher BTU content will produce more heat when burned.
Cord: A cord is a standard measurement of firewood volume. A “full cord” is a neatly stacked pile of wood measuring 4 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 4 feet deep (128 cubic feet).
Note: These values are estimates for seasoned (dried) wood. Actual heat output can vary based on moisture content, stove efficiency, and stacking density.
